Elementary School
- If you accidentally spill a drink on your kitchen floor and you
know your mom will be upset because she told you not to have that
drink, what do you do?
- You want to go to your friend’s house, but your mom tells you
have to clean your room before you go. You tell her you cleaned it,
even though you didn’t, and run over to his house. Is that ok?
- You tell your friend that you can’t come over because you’re
busy and then you call another friend and ask them over. Is that the
right thing to do? Why or why not?
- You are taking a spelling test and you don’t know how to spell
the word. You look at your classmates’ paper and copy what he has.
Is that the honest thing to do?
- When your teacher left the classroom you saw someone write a bad
word on the board. The teacher asks you after class if you know who
did it. What do you tell her?
Middle School
- If you found $20 in the street, what would you do?
- Have you ever cheated on a homework assignment? What about a
test?
- You see that someone left their locker open and there is a video
game inside that you really want. No one is looking…do you take it?
- You are waiting in a long line for a carnival ride and the ride
operator announces that it will be closing in a few minutes. You
realize you won't get on unless you cut in line. Would you do it?
- On the first day of classes you are happy to discover the
assigned essay is on a topic you wrote a paper on last term. You
print off a new copy and hand it in on the due date with a new cover
page. Is this considered dishonest?
High School
- You are frustrated about not getting the results you should
during a lab experiment. You notice others at your lab table are
finished and cleaning up their materials. You decide to change your
lab results to the expected outcome and begin to clean up your lab
area. This is OK because you know what the answers are supposed to
be.
- The check-out girl at your favorite store undercharges you for
an item. Do you let her know?
- You are supposed to include eight references in an essay
assignment. You run out of time and add two articles to your
bibliography that you did not use to write your paper. Is this
considered dishonest?
- You’re shopping at a department store when you accidentally
knock an expensive bottle of perfume off the shelf and it shatters.
You’re alone in the aisle – no one saw. What do you do?
- You are taking a walk when you see a stray $20 bill fall from
the pocket of woman walking in front of you. She doesn’t notice the
fallen money. What do you do?
- If your friend is wearing an outfit and she/he asks you for you
opinion and you think it looks awful, do you say what you really
think?
- A friend tells you he's been using steroids and he wants you to
promise not to tell anyone. What do you do?
- You get out of the store and realize the cashier gave you an
extra $5 in change. What do you do?
- You are sick and see your family doctor. He provides you with a
medical certificate that will excuse you from the final exam you
missed. When you look at the documentation on the way to school, you
notice your doctor wrote in the wrong date. You find a similar color
pen and make the changes. Is that ok to do?
Adults
- If you had access to the internet at your workplace, would you
ever use it for personal reasons?
- If your company made an error in your paycheck and gave you
additional money, would you inform your supervisor?
- If your boss complimented you on a successful project and you
had nothing to do with the project, would you admit it?
- If your boss was out of town and would not know if you took
extended lunches or left early from an assigned shift, would you do
it?
- You take your 13-year-old daughter to a movie and the box office
cashier assumes that she is younger and charges you for a child’s
ticket which saves you $5. What do you do?
- Have you ever taken office supplies from your job for personal
use?
- Have you ever borrowed something from somebody without their
approval or knowledge?
- You committed to helping a friend move on Sunday and on Saturday
night, another friend calls you to tell you he has just won two
tickets on the 50-yard line to Sunday’s big game and he wants you to
join him. What do you do?
- You caught your best friend’s husband having an affair and he
asked you not to tell her. What do you do?
- As you leave a big supermarket, you realize that the cashier has
given you $10 too much in change. Would you return and give the
money back?
- You have had too much to drink at a party and suspect you are
well over the legal limit. Would you still attempt to drive home?
- The towels in your hotel bathroom are very attractive. Would you
put one in your suitcase and walk away with it?
- A friend offers you an illegal copy of an expensive computer
software program for free. Would you accept it and install it on
your own computer?
