"Grandparent of the Year" Award

Polk County Family Week is pleased to continue with our Grandparent of the Year Award in connection with our 2010 Polk County Family Week. Last year was the first year we had held this contest, and we were truly touched by the entries we received.

We wish to acknowledge the importance of grandparents to our community. Their knowledge, love and wisdom are a key ingredient to the success of our families.
Polk County Family Week was designed to unite, celebrate, and honor families. The goal of our "Grandparent of the Year" award will be to celebrate and honor grandparents and to strengthen the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. The winner will receive a certificate and a prize.

HOW TO ENTER: Anyone can nominate a Grandparent of the Year--grandchildren, children of a deserving grandparent, even friends or neighbors who have seen a grandparent caring and sharing in a way that merits recognition. Either the one who nominates a grandparent or the grandparent being nominated should reside in Polk County. It is not necessary for both parties to be a resident. Entries should be typed on 8 1/2 x 11" size format.

Please write the name and telephone number of the grandparent you are nominating. In a paragraph or essay, please share the special qualities of the grandparent you would like to nominate and why he/she deserves to be recognized. Also, include your name, telephone number, and your relationship with this grandparent.

Submit by email to: by October 31, 2010.

Winner will be announced and recognized at the Polk County Family Week Kick-Off Event on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Central Park in downtown Winter Haven.
